Natural hair

After having a recent conversation with a fellow natural about hair care, I decided to do a series on natural hair care and maintenance. The focus of this post is dry hair. Naturally curly hair is prone to dryness because of the structure of the hair. The natural oils produced by the scalp of those with curly/kinky hair are not able to travel all the way down the hair shaft because of the twists and turns of the curls. Dry hair is a set -up for breakage and breakage ensures that you will not “see” hair growth! Other problems can also exacerbate this dry state of affairs. Listed below are some common causes and solutions.

Possible Causes
•Shampooing too often
•Use of 'poos with harsh sulfates
Use of products with alcohol which can also be drying
•Not drinking enough water
•Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase or using a cotton scarf, which rob hair of moisture
•Overly porous or low porosity hair
•Not using water based hair moisturizers
•Not sealing moisture in with an oil or butter
•Improper hair pH
•Excessive use of heavy products w/out proper cleansing (build-up)
Chemical Damage such as relaxers or other chemical straighteners
Color treated hair (notorious for dryness)
•Using too much direct heat (blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc. on a consistent basis)
•Too much chlorine (from swimming pools or tap water)
•Salt (from ocean water)
•General weathering from the elements
•Mechanical damage from over manipulation (which leave the cuticle vulnerable)

New Orleans Shooting

The New Orleans shooting was very shocking. My view on it, whoever the jerk was is a coward. Who would shoot at people on mother’s day? The families that were affected are very sad because they had to experience that. The police are doing everything they can to find this punk. 19 people were wounded. This not only affects the families but the children. Parents won’t feel safe to let their children out to play outside, nobody would sit on their porch just to talk because people are foolish and don’t thin about the families. Also, I think that the families should pressed charges spritely of the case. More communities need to stick together so they can put together a crime stoppers and stop using that “We Don’t Snitch” rule, because if it was their family member. They’ll be quick to open their mouths.

For My Bestfriend Birthday Tomorrow!

Nya This is for you...

A smile so sublime,
which wipes the tears
of worst times...

A gradiant face,
which bears the charm of trust and wisdom
in every case...

A beautiful heart,
making the ambience of happiness
to splurge...

An inspiring soul,
which endures the turmoil
which take a toll...

A wonderful human,
whose company is
blisful as heaven...

These wonderful lines define my friend,
without whom my life is
an isolated haven...

I hold a hope close to my heart,
a hope that my friend be
by my side till the end...

As I wish her a life as beautiful as her,
hoping she persevere to achieve
the best of her caliber...

Poem for Mother's Day!

The day of my birth, the sun appeared
to bestow you, I, your child,
or at least that's how you make me feel.

Ever since that day, your sky became I-
the one you contemplated everyday
and every night.

My many gestures like a charade
game with the clouds for you, became.
My screams and cries like the storms
that turned your beautiful days into sunless ones.

what I wanted to say, you learned to guess
without the need to finish all my lines
though, you didn't just learned,
much more than that, you did.

You came to understand
my every expression
my every action,
and my every change

Your intuition help you learn and understand
the weather of the sky in me

Nevertheless, one too many times,
I surprised you, your predictions seemed to have fail.
Because a cloudy day, you weren't expecting to see in me,
nor did you forecasted any rains to cascade from my eyes,
but even so,
you were prepared to stand and watch your sky cry,
you were patient to let the rain in me pass out.

and occasionally,
when some thunders from my sight, I released,
you showed that you are lovable and strong
because I scared you, I know,
but despite being scared
you remained by my side and helped me dealt with my thunders

and when you couldn't do so,
by my side, you still remained
while you patiently prayed that your sky
will soon be illuminated with sunshine rays.

Thankfully,
those prayers were heard
because the many twisters of my life soon went away

and even when the rays of my hopes went dim
you were there with a candle in your hand
to light the days and nights for me

the moment I was born, I became part of your sky
the one you have contemplated no matter the weather

and mama,
Thanks to you

Every time I'd look upon the sky
I will see you, my love and my future child
just like you see all your children and my dad.

Memories

Freshman year
flies by so fast
you find new friends
and forget the past

sophomore year
is where things complicate
you've got grades and parties
even lose friends due to mistakes

junior year
you're almost there
you find your true friends;
you find out who really cares.

senior year
is where things really matter;
you've built so many bonds
just to watch them shatter.

when you throw your caps
into the night sky
you dont even realize it
but you've just said goodbye.

goodbye to school bells ringing
and lunch time conversations
goodbye to all of your drama
and awkward situations

goodbye to seeing your friends
from the morning to the afternoon
goodbye to knowing that when the day's over
you'll see them all again soon.

goodbye to all of the cliques
and gross cafeteria food
goodbye to the wonderful faces
of most everyone you knew

you build such a bond
in the duration of your four years
you get so close to these people,
then watch it disappear.

it's like a toddler with his building blocks
he'll build it up to watch them fall
then all you're left with are high school memories
nothing more, nothing at all
